چکیده

Fifty-nine methodological studies were designed to estimate the magnitude of nonresponse bias in statistics of interest. These studies use a variety of designs: sampling frames with rich variables, data from administrative records matched to sample case, use of screeninginterview data to describe nonrespondents to main interviews, followup of nonrespondents to initial phases of field effort, and measures of behavior intentions to respond to a survey. This permits exploration of which circumstances produce a relationship between nonresponse rates and nonresponse bias and which, do not. The predictors are design features of the surveys, characteristics of the sample, and attributes of the survey statistics computed in the surveys.

Nonresponse Rates and Nonresponse Bias In Household Surveys

Many surveys of the U.S. household population are experiencing higher refusal rates. Nonresponse can, but need not, induce nonresponse bias in survey estimates. Recent empirical findings illustrate cases when the linkage between nonresponse rates and nonresponse biases is absent. Despite this, professional standards continue to urge high response rates. Statistical expressions of nonresponse bi...

Nonresponse bias in randomized controlled experiments in criminology: Putting the Queensland Community Engagement Trial (QCET) under a microscope.

OBJECTIVES The goal of this article is to examine whether or not the results of the Queensland Community Engagement Trial (QCET)-a randomized controlled trial that tested the impact of procedural justice policing on citizen attitudes toward police-were affected by different types of nonresponse bias. METHOD We use two methods (Cochrane and Elffers methods) to explore nonresponse bias: First, ...

Effects On Survey Estimates From Reducing Nonresponse

Using a variety of procedures designed to maximize response rates, survey organizations expend sometimes extraordinary efforts to minimize the potential for nonresponse bias. Given that nonresponse bias is a function of both the nonresponse rate and the difference between respondents and nonrespondents, maximizing response rates is a sensible approach to minimizing the potential for bias contri...

Practice of Epidemiology Estimating Nonresponse Bias in a Telephone-based Health Surveillance Survey in New York City

Despite concerns about nonresponse bias due to decreasing response rates, telephone surveys remain a viable option for conducting local population-based surveillance. Unfortunately, traditional methods of evaluating nonresponse bias pose challenges for public health practitioners due to high ...
